About Margot and The Allotment Letter
The Allotment Letter is written by Margot Ellery. She grows vegetables on a half-sized plot on a council allotment site in Sheffield, in the north of England.
What the letter is
One letter a week, each Thursday, about what Margot did on the plot and why. It is one gardener's notes, not a textbook. The soil is heavy clay, the springs are late and wet, and what works here may need changing for your plot.
When a letter gives a firm rule, such as when to sow, it links to a source you can check. When it gives Margot's own habit, it says so.
What it costs
Every letter on this site is free to read, and so is the Thursday email. Readers who want to support the letter can join the supporters' list for a monthly plot plan by email. See the subscribe page for both.
Write to Margot
Replies to any letter reach Margot directly, and she reads them all. You can also write to [email protected]. She cannot visit plots or answer questions about pests from photos, but she does answer questions that might make a good letter.
