How to set up your AI provider key

SerpDad writes with an AI provider account you own. You pick the provider and the model, and the provider bills you directly.

Required

Which provider to choose

We recommend OpenRouter. One OpenRouter key reaches every model SerpDad offers.

You can also use Anthropic, OpenAI, Z.AI or Moonshot. They are under Other providers in the provider list.

Add the key to SerpDad

  1. Create an API key in your provider's dashboard. Name it "SerpDad" so you can find it later.
  2. Set a spend limit on the key at the provider before you paste it.
  3. In SerpDad, go to Workspace › Provider keys. Owners and admins can add and change keys.
  4. In the AI provider form, pick the provider and a model, paste the key and save. SerpDad checks the key before it saves it.

For an OpenRouter key, SerpDad reads the key's spend limit when you save it and warns you when none is set.

If SerpDad says the key does not work

  • Key refused: copy the key again. Check there is no space before or after it, and that you picked the right provider.
  • Out of funds or spend limit reached: add credit or raise the limit at the provider.
  • Model not available: the provider no longer offers that model to your key. Pick another model in the form and save.

Your content and the provider

The text SerpDad sends for your work goes to your own provider account. That provider's terms decide whether it may use the text. Check its settings and terms before you connect it.

Replace or remove the key

To replace the key, save a new one on the Provider keys page. To stop SerpDad using it, delete it there and revoke it in your provider's dashboard.

SerpDad stores your key encrypted, for your workspace only, and shows only its last 4 characters.
