Compare / Frase review

Frase review: the tool that can run itself, judged by a rival.

This Frase review is written by a competitor. We make SerpDad, and we disagree with Frase.io on one big question: whether software should publish for you. So weigh what follows with that in mind. Every fact about Frase comes from its own home and pricing pages, checked 21 Oct 2026, and we say plainly where Frase does more than we do.

The short version. What Frase is today.

Frase began as a research and brief tool for SEO writers. Its home page now calls it a content operating system for AI search. It audits your pages, finds opportunities, writes with an AI agent, publishes to your CMS, and watches published pages for slips.

The defining idea is autonomy. Per content type, you choose how much Frase does on its own: manual, review only, or automatic. Its pricing page says the agent can draft and auto-publish on every plan once you switch it on.

In short: Frase wants to be the whole content team's software, from audit to live page, with you deciding how far it goes without asking.

Who wrote this

The team behind SerpDad. Our tool plans which pages a site needs and drafts only from sourced brief items, and it never publishes. Frase overlaps with us on audits, briefs and drafts, so we have a stake. We kept to Frase's own pages and gave no star ratings.

Who it suits. Frase fits these teams best.

  • Small content teams that want one tool to audit, write and publish, and are happy to let it act on its own.
  • Sites on WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, or teams willing to host pages on FraseCMS.
  • Brands that want AI answers tracked across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini as well as Google.
  • Developers and AI-tool users who want to drive content work from an MCP server or a CLI.

Features. What you get, as Frase describes it.

From the Frase.io home and pricing pages, checked 21 Oct 2026.

Site Audit and opportunities

Scores each page for search and AI answers and ranks fixes by impact. An opportunity report pulls search data, competitor gaps, declining pages and visitor questions into one list.

Research and the AI Agent

SEO research and topic clusters decide what to cover. The agent drafts in your brand profile, which Frase can learn from your site or you set in a Brand Hub.

Publishing and FraseCMS

Publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix on every plan, or hosts pages on FraseCMS. Hosting has a free tier and paid tiers from $19 a month.

Content Guard

Watches rankings and traffic on published pages and drafts a revision when one slips. Fixes wait for your approval unless you opt in.

AI Visibility

Tracks prompts across ChatGPT and Google AI from Starter, adds Perplexity on Professional, and Claude and Gemini on Scale.

MCP, CLI and API

Every plan includes MCP and CLI access, with a monthly request quota from 5,000 on Starter to 50,000 on Scale.

Pricing. Frase pricing, checked 21 Oct 2026.

Per month, from frase.io/pricing. Yearly billing saves 20% on the monthly rate.

Allowances are per month, as listed on the pricing page. Enterprise is custom on every row.
PlanBilled yearlyBilled monthlySeats and sitesArticlesAudit pagesAI prompts tracked
Starter $39 $49 1 seat, 1 site 10 50 50: ChatGPT, Google AI
Professional $103 $129 3 seats, 5 sites 40 250 200: adds Perplexity
Scale $239 $299 5 seats, 10 sites 100 1,000 500: adds Claude, Gemini

The 7-day trial needs no card and uses Professional features, capped at 5 articles. Starter stops at its limits. Professional and Scale can bill overages if you turn them on, for example $5 per extra article on Professional. Extra seats are $29 a month. We found no refund policy on the pricing page.

Strengths. Where Frase is genuinely good.

One tool, start to finish

Audit, research, drafting, publishing and page monitoring live in one place. SerpDad hands drafts to your CMS and stops there.

Wide AI answer tracking

On Scale, Frase tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google AI. SerpDad checks Google AI Overviews and AI Mode only.

Clear plan terms

Prices, caps, overage rates and the trial are all on one page, and overages are off by default. That is more than most tools in this category show.

Weaknesses. Where Frase falls short, in our view.

Auto-publish is one switch away

Frase asks for approval by default, which is good. But a setting can be changed by anyone with access. Teams whose name is on every claim may want a tool that cannot publish at all.

Caps shape the month

Starter covers 10 articles and 50 audit pages. A site refresh across a few hundred pages pushes you to Professional or Scale fast.

AI tracking is tiered

Perplexity needs Professional, and Claude and Gemini need Scale at $239 a month billed yearly. The Starter list is ChatGPT and Google AI.

Planning is not one page per keyword

A content calendar arrives on Professional. We found no step that gives every keyword exactly one owner page and checks that your pages do not compete.

How it compares. Frase next to the usual alternatives.

More detail: Surfer SEO vs Frase, our Surfer SEO review and SerpDad's four refusals.

Our Frase review verdict. Is Frase worth it?

Yes, if you want software that does the work. Frase covers more of the content job than any other tool here, its terms are clear, and its AI tracking on Scale is broad. A small team that trusts its review step will get a lot done.

Less so, if a person must own every claim. If your problem is AI copy that shipped with a wrong fact, or pages that compete for the same keywords, more autonomy is not the fix. That is the gap SerpDad was built for: a page plan with receipts, drafts from sourced facts, and a human on the publish button.

Is Frase worth it?

For a small team that wants one tool to audit, write and publish, often yes. If a person must own every claim and press publish, or your problem is deciding which pages to build, more automation will not fix that on its own.

How much does Frase cost?

When we checked on 21 Oct 2026, Starter was $39 a month billed yearly or $49 monthly, Professional $103 or $129, Scale $239 or $299, and Enterprise was custom. Extra seats are $29 a month.

Does Frase publish automatically?

Only if you switch it on. Its pricing page says the agent can draft and auto-publish on every plan once enabled, and Content Guard fixes wait for your approval unless you opt in.

Does Frase have a free trial?

Yes. A 7-day trial with no card, using Professional features capped at 5 articles. We found no refund policy on the pricing page.

Why trust a Frase review written by a competitor?

Weigh it accordingly. We say who we are, use only facts from Frase's own pages with the date we checked them, list where Frase does more than we do, and give no star ratings. Email us if anything is wrong and we will fix it.

Plan it, source it, sign it.
Then a person publishes.

Your first plan is free up to 1,000 keywords, with briefs for the top 5 pages. No card needed.
