Ecommerce category page SEO, settled by the SERP. Category, product or guide: one page owns each query.
Ecommerce category page SEO starts before anyone writes collection copy: which page on the store should own the query at all? SerpDad reads Google's live top 10 for every keyword and counts the kinds of pages that show up. Then it gives each keyword one owner page on your store, flags collections that chase the same searches, and attaches a receipt to every call.
Your first plan is free up to 1,000 keywords. No card needed.
Before you read on. Is this you?
- Your store has collections, products and a blog, and all three chase similar searches.
- Filtered or near-duplicate collection pages earn impressions for the same queries.
- New categories get added as the catalogue grows, and nobody checks what already exists.
- The blog team and the merchandising team plan from different spreadsheets.
- Your store sells to shoppers in the United States.
Probably not a fit if you need product feed work or technical fixes, such as faceted navigation rules or product schema. SerpDad decides which page should own which query. It does not change your store, and it plans for United States, English, desktop only.
Three store jobs, mapped to what SerpDad does today.
1. Decide category, product or guide for every query
SerpDad gives each planned page the format most common in its top 10: list, how-to, comparison or landing. A query whose top 10 is full of list and landing pages points at a collection. A query full of how-to articles points at the blog. There is no separate category format, and we would rather say so than invent one.
When the top 10 is split, SerpDad does not guess. The review queue asks "What shape should this page take?" and shows how many of the top 10 use each shape. Want a quick look at one keyword first? The free Intent Checker counts product pages too.
2. Stop collections competing with each other
When two or more of your existing URLs earn impressions for one planned page, the plan marks it Pages compete and says how many. If none clearly leads, the review queue asks which page SerpDad should improve, with the evidence for each.
Pin the owner, merge the planned pages or move a keyword. SerpDad never edits, redirects or removes the other URL. The fix on the store, a canonical, a redirect or a merged collection, stays your call and your change.
3. Brief the collections, draft the guides
The E-commerce category pages template plans the list, drops pages whose focus keyword contains how, what, why, guide, diy or free, and writes briefs for the top 20 list and landing pages. Everything else goes to a CSV for the blog team, so they start with a page list that never collides with a collection.
Guides can be drafted from sourced brief items and staged in Shopify as hidden blog articles after a named sign-off. SerpDad never publishes, and it does not write to collection or product pages. Collection copy goes in by your hand.
The store workflow. From keyword export to collection briefs.
Import what the store and its rivals rank for
Pull the keywords a site ranks for from your Ahrefs account, up to 10,000 a fetch, or seed from up to 5 competitor domains. Search Console adds the queries you already earn.
Approve the estimate
The cost gate shows exact fetch and volume lines at your DataForSEO prices before anything is spent.
Use the E-commerce category pages template
It copies into your workspace as a draft. Change the filter words or the brief count to suit your catalogue.
Settle shapes and competing collections
Answer the page shape and existing-page calls. Your answers survive every later run.

From our own run on serpdad.com
serpdad.com is not a store, so we will not dress our run up as an ecommerce result. What carries over is the method: 64 contested keywords went to a person instead of being guessed, and 85 of the review decisions were page shape calls, the same question a store asks about every collection.

Does SerpDad have a category page type?
No. SerpDad gives each page one of four formats from its top 10: list, how-to, comparison or landing. The E-commerce category pages template treats list and landing pages as category candidates and sends the rest to the blog team.
Can it tell me when two collections compete?
Yes. When two or more of your existing URLs earn impressions for one planned page, the plan marks it Pages compete and names the URLs. If none clearly leads, the review queue asks which page SerpDad should improve.
Will SerpDad change my store, canonicals or redirects?
No. Pinning an owner page never edits, redirects or removes the other URL. You decide what to change on the store and make the change yourself.
What does the Shopify connection do?
It stages signed articles as hidden blog articles in your Shopify store. You connect it with your shop domain, an Admin API token and the blog to use. SerpDad never publishes, and it does not write to collection or product pages.
Can I plan for a store outside the United States?
Not yet. Each project is set to United States, English, desktop when it is created.
