Product / Improve / Content decay
Content decay, side by side: the old SERP next to today's.
When a page loses clicks, the first question is whether the page got worse or the results changed. SerpDad finds content decay in your Search Console data, then puts the top 10 from before the drop next to a fresh one, with every changed row marked.
Each refresh shows its cost on your own keys before anything runs.
Most decay reports stop at the line chart. The chart says when. It never says what changed.
You rewrite the wrong thing
Clicks fell, so the page gets a new intro and a fresh date. Meanwhile the top three results switched from guides to lists, and nobody looked.
The old SERP is gone
By the time anyone checks, nobody saved what ranked last quarter. You are comparing today with a memory.
Every dip looks like decay
December is quiet every year. Without last year next to this year, a seasonal dip gets the same rewrite as a real loss.
How it works. Find the drop, compare the results, refresh what changed.
Find pages that lost real clicks
SerpDad compares each page's last 28 synced days in Search Console with the 28 days before. Clicks down more than 25%, from at least 100, puts a page in Decay.
Rule out the calendar
With 12 or more months of data, a dip that matches the same weeks last year goes to Monitor instead. You only see the drops the season does not explain.
Put the two top 10s side by side
The stored top 10 from before the drop sits next to a fresh fetch on your DataForSEO key. Changed rows are marked, and the change is named.
Refresh only the sections that changed
SerpDad rebuilds the brief from the new results and redrafts the changed sections. Unchanged signed sections stay signed. Changed ones go back for sign-off.
What a content decay tool should show you. Four named changes, read from the SERP.
Every decaying page gets the same four checks. Each one is a fact about the results you can verify in a search yourself.
| Change | What SerpDad saw | What you might do about it |
|---|---|---|
| New AI Overview | An AI Overview now shows for the keyword where there was none | Check whether your page is cited, on the AI visibility page |
| Format change | The ranking pages switched type, for example from guides to lists | Rework the page shape, not just the copy |
| New competitor | A site that was not in the old top 10 is in it now | Read what that page covers that yours does not |
| Intent shift | The results now answer a different need | Ask whether this page should still own the keyword |

What it won't do. It never claims to know why you lost clicks.
A new AI Overview and a drop in clicks can happen in the same month without one causing the other. So SerpDad reports what changed in the results and how much your clicks moved. It does not tell you why.
That is less satisfying than a confident diagnosis. It is also the only version you can repeat to a client without hoping they never check.

What counts as content decay in SerpDad?
A page whose clicks in the last 28 synced days fell more than 25% against the 28 days before, from at least 100 clicks. A smaller drop can still show up in Monitor.
How does it tell decay from a seasonal dip?
With 12 or more months of Search Console data, SerpDad checks the same weeks last year. A dip that matches last year goes to Monitor, not Decay.
Where does the old SERP come from?
SerpDad keeps the top 10 it read for each keyword before the drop. It fetches a fresh top 10 on your DataForSEO key and lays the two side by side.
Does SerpDad tell me why the page lost clicks?
No. It names what changed in the results: a new AI Overview, a format change, a new competitor or an intent shift. That describes the SERP. It is not a claim about the cause.
What does a refresh cost?
You see an estimate on your own keys before it starts. A refresh fetches new results, rebuilds the brief and redrafts only the sections that changed.
Can it check for decay every week?
Yes. The Refresh pages that are losing traffic job finds decaying pages on a schedule and asks before it spends.
See what changed first.
