SerpDad + Slack: tell the channel when a person is needed.

The Notify by Slack workflow block posts a short message to one Slack channel through an incoming webhook you create. Use it to tell your team that a run waits for approval, a page dropped or a report is ready to check. The approval itself happens in SerpDad, where the cost is on screen.

No cost. Notify by Slack spends nothing on your provider keys.

What flows where. One direction, one channel, one short message.

Out of SerpDad: a short message

By default it holds counts, names and a link to the run. Not your drafts, not your keys.

Your own wording if you want it

Write a message of up to 1,000 characters, with variables such as the workflow name, a count or the run link.

Into Slack: one channel

The incoming webhook you create posts to the channel you chose when you made it. Nothing else in Slack is reachable.

Anywhere in a workflow

Put the block after any step. It passes the data on, so the workflow keeps going after the message is sent.

A failed post is visible

If Slack refuses the message, the step fails with Slack's own reason, and you can retry it from the run.

Email still works

Approvers get an email when a scheduled run goes above its ceiling. Slack is the extra nudge, not a replacement.

Approvals. Slack says a person is needed. SerpDad is where they decide.

Every spending block shows an estimate, and nothing spends without an approval. A person approves a run in SerpDad with Approve run, or sends Request approval up the line when the estimate is above the owner approval line. A run waiting for approval expires after 7 days.

Scheduled, event and webhook runs can run inside a standing approval an Owner or Admin grants, up to a per-run ceiling. A run above the ceiling waits and emails approvers.

Put Notify by Slack before an Approval or Human review step, and the channel hears about it at the moment the run stops to wait. There are no approve buttons in Slack, on purpose: the approver should see the estimate first.

What you need. A channel and an incoming webhook.

  • A Slack workspace where you can add the Incoming Webhooks app to a channel.
  • The webhook URL Slack gives you. Treat it like a password: anyone with it can post to that channel.
  • The Owner, Admin or Manager role in SerpDad to build and publish workflows.

Setup. Connect Slack in three steps.

  1. Create an incoming webhook in Slack

Add the Incoming Webhooks app to the channel you want, and copy its webhook URL.

  2. Add it in Workspace, Connections

Choose Slack and paste the URL. SerpDad stores it encrypted and shows it masked from then on.

  3. Add Notify by Slack to a workflow

Pick the Slack connection, add your own message if you like, and publish the workflow version.

Triggers, blocks, approvals and every output: Jobs and workflows docs.

What it won't do. It never reads your Slack, and never approves for you.

An incoming webhook can post to one channel and do nothing else. SerpDad cannot read messages, list users or see other channels.

Slack never approves a run. Spending decisions stay in SerpDad, with the estimate in front of the person making them.

SerpDad only sends to Slack's own webhook address and does not follow redirects. To cut the connection, remove it in SerpDad and remove the webhook in Slack.

Can I approve a run from Slack?

No. The Slack message tells the channel that something needs a person and links to the run. The approval itself happens in SerpDad, where the approver reads the estimate first.

What does the Slack message say?

By default it holds counts, names and a link to the run. You can write your own message of up to 1,000 characters, with variables such as the workflow name, a count or the run link.

Does the Slack integration cost anything?

No. Notify by Slack spends nothing on your provider keys. It is part of the plan.

Can SerpDad read my Slack workspace?

No. You give it an incoming webhook URL, which can only post to the one channel you chose. SerpDad cannot read messages, users or other channels.

Who is told about approvals if I do not use Slack?

Email covers it. Approvers get an email when a scheduled run goes above its standing approval ceiling, and people who can sign get an email when a draft is ready for sign-off.

The nudge in Slack. The decision in SerpDad.
