Integrations / Asana

SerpDad + Asana: a task with a name and a date on it.

The SerpDad Asana integration adds a task to one Asana project whenever a workflow reaches its Create task block. The task carries an assignee, a due date and a link to the run, so the work SerpDad finds lands in the project plan your team already reads.

No cost. Create task spends nothing on your provider keys.

What flows where. How the Asana integration works.

Out of SerpDad: one task

A title of up to 200 characters, an optional assignee and a due date from 0 to 90 days out. The title can carry variables such as the project or a count.

What the notes hold

Which workflow and run sent it, for which project, up to 25 page, brief or article names, and a link to the run. Never article text or keys.

Into Asana: one project

The task joins the project you named when you added the connection. SerpDad keeps the task link in the step receipt.

Anywhere after a list

Put the block after any step that hands on pages, briefs or articles. It passes the data on, so the run keeps going.

A refused task is visible

If Asana refuses the call, the step fails with Asana's reason. Fix the connection and retry the step from the run.

One project per connection

Add a connection per Asana project, for example one per client, and pick the right one in each block.

For agencies. Each client's work in each client's project.

Agencies tend to run one Asana project per client. Add one connection per project, and each client's workflow sends its tasks to the right place.

Reports are a good example. A person has to check each one before your agency sends it. Add Create task to the Agency monthly client report workflow, and that check sits in the client's Asana project next to the rest of the retainer work, with a due date your account lead can see.

The task points at the run. The report, the brief or the sign-off is in SerpDad, where the receipts are.

What you need. An Asana token and a project ID.

  • An Asana personal access token, made in the Asana developer console. Treat it like a password.
  • The ID of the Asana project the tasks should go to. It is the number in the project URL.
  • The Owner, Admin or Manager role in SerpDad to add connections and publish workflows.

Setup. Connect Asana in three steps.

  1. Make a personal access token in Asana

Name it SerpDad, copy it, and note the project ID from the project URL.

  2. Add it in Workspace, Connections

Choose Asana, paste the token and the project ID. SerpDad stores the token encrypted and shows it masked from then on.

  3. Add Create task to a workflow

Pick the Asana connection, write the title, add an assignee and a due date if you want them, and publish the workflow version.

Triggers, blocks, approvals and every output: Jobs and workflows docs.

What it won't do. It creates tasks. It never reads or changes your projects.

SerpDad sends one request to create a task in the project you named. It does not read your projects, edit other tasks or see comments.

Completing the task in Asana changes nothing in SerpDad. Spending steps still show their estimate and wait for an approval in SerpDad.

To cut the connection, remove it in Workspace, Connections and revoke the token in Asana.

Read the four refusals

Templates. Workflows that are better with an Asana task.

Agency monthly client report

A task in the client project to check and send the report.

Keyword pile to signed articles

A task for the editor when drafts are ready to read and sign.

Publisher: find decaying posts

A task listing the posts losing clicks, assigned to whoever owns refreshes.

What does SerpDad create in Asana?

One task in the Asana project you chose when you added the connection. It has a title, an optional assignee, an optional due date, and notes that list what reached the step: a count, up to 25 names and a link to the run in SerpDad.

What do I need to connect Asana?

An Asana personal access token and the ID of the project the tasks go to. You paste both in Workspace, Connections. The token is stored encrypted and shown masked.

Does creating Asana tasks cost anything?

No. Create task spends nothing on your provider keys.

Does SerpDad read my Asana projects?

No. It sends one request to create a task in the project you named and keeps the link Asana sends back for the run receipt. It does not list, read or change other tasks.

Can I send tasks to different Asana projects?

Yes. Add one connection per project in Workspace, Connections, then pick the connection in each Create task block.

The task in Asana. The receipts in SerpDad.
